Start a Relationship with Jesus.
That’s the single, best place to start.
We have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23).
Just like when you sin against a loved one and it creates distance between you and that person, so our sin separates us from God. I am truly convinced that our hearts simply have a spot JUST made for God, and without him filling it we will remain empty and roaming this earth in search of that fill. That could come in many forms: drugs, sex, relationships, over-working, identity in all the wrong things. Sometimes these things are good at first, but they wear off and become as empty as any other pursuit that we went after in our blind search for the fulfilling — that is GOD himself.
Separated from you, his own creation, God yearns to be reunited with you in spirit until you go home to heaven and can be, finally, face-to-face. God is holy and can’t come into relationship with sin. There must be repentance and forgiveness for you to be reunited. Let’s do our part and God His.
God showed his forgiveness for us by having Jesus (sinless) punished for our sins on the cross (once and for all). He bore our punishment. This is where true love begins; shown to us in Christ’s self-sacrifice. God lifted Christ up in the power of life after death on the cross. This symbolizes our victory over our own sin by leaning on His power and Holy Spirit who will be our helper and companion day in and out.
Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord..
– Acts 3:19 NIV
If you declare with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. As Scripture says, 'Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.'
– Romans 10:9-11
